I dropped R. Mathias and picked up A. Davis. Our league is a bit different than normal fantasy football leagues in that we have individual defensive players (IDP) rather than the more popular full defense. Typically the Linebacker position is the top point earner week in and week out, therefore I dropped Mathias (Cornerback) to pick up Davis. Note: This move cost me .50 cents, I hope it was a wise one.

The day the President came to town.
August 31, 2006This afternoon SLC Mayor Rocky Anderson held a local rally to raise awareness to his point of view related to Pres Bush and his policies. According to local reports the Mayor called for honesty from Pres Bush and “denounced what he called the lies that led the U.S. into the war.” There were other rallies, both pro and con and more to come tonight when the Pres actually arrives. One of the comments I found interesting today came from a fellow by the name of Conan Heimdahl:
“The decision and debate as to whether they should be there is before we send them. There should be a lot debate I think, and it should be debated hotly. Because we as soldiers don’t chose where we go. We don’t have the luxury of being political. Once you’ve made the decision, and the troops are on the ground. We need to do whatever is necessary to give them what they need to come home with honor.”
To me this statement crystallizes the crux of the whole matter. Did we have accurate data, was it hotly debated, was there a legal authorization to go to war by the congress of the USA, are we providing them with “whatever is necessary” in order for them to come home with honor? I believe once we answer these questions we can move forward as a country and do what is best not only for the USA, but for Iraq and the whole of the Middle East.
The decision and debate as to whether we should be there: This point as been debated ad nauseam, so much so that both sides truly believe the other side to be completely off base. I tend to lean towards the right wing POV on this issue. However, I must remind you conservatives, many of those who put in place the idea of regime change post 9-11 were planning this long before September 11, 2001. Go here to read more about this
Because we as soldiers don’t chose where we go. We don’t have the luxury of being political: Unfortunately a small number of people who choose to sign-up for Military service don’t feel the same way. That begs the question: what if someone deep down truly believes that a war/conflict is wrong and immoral and chooses not to fight in it? This is a question that every person in service to their Govt must ask themselves, sometimes the answer isn’t too popular. Personally I support the war in Iraq, it was time for Saddam to go. That being said I have a few issues, one is with the Secretary of Defense and the way he dealt with the Generals and the way the Generals dealt with him.
We need to do whatever is necessary to give them what they need to come home with honor: That brings us to today. We have politicians screaming for a withdrawal from Iraq, not supporting legislation to protect our troops. We have people campaigning on this very issue. I ask this question: if we cut and run from Iraq now, with all the chaos taking place, are we giving “them what they need to come home with honor?” What is the plan for leaving Iraq? What does it look like? What happens to the country of Iraq when we leave and the terrorists overthrow the fledlging Govt, or do we believe that the Iraqis will be able to solve the insurgency? I have heard many times this is Vietnam all over again. What I have learned from Vietnam was that the politicians screwed up everything and when we cut and ran many millions of South Vietnamese died. Let’s learn from our past and not make the same mistake again. This time let’s get the job done right, regardless of how we got into it.
Anyhow, those are my thoughts on this day when the Pres came to town.

The Draft!
August 30, 2006Sunday last, nine of my friends and I had our annual fantasy football draft. ( Click Here ) I was picking in the #1 position. This is how my draft turned out:
